1 DPO

Well, I have decided that I am 1DPO. We have BD’d CD8,9,13,14,15,16 so far. Also, I have been really horny the last couple of days – nothing forced! So, I am quite happy with our efforts so far.

A major downer is that I ran out baby wipes when we were away, and fell asleep after BD a few times…and now have a bladder infection trying to start. I hope it doesn’t, as it is so awful. I am trying to drink a lot and hope it doesn’t flare up.

Anyways, after work today, I finally went to see Solape and the baby. Not having seen her since the Nigeria trip, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Getting to their home in Croydon, armed with the gifts and flowers I’d brought, I braced myself before knocking on the door, steeling myself for whatever came along.

I hadn’t anticipated Ugo opening the door, and my heart had skipped seeing his face again. From the look on his own face, he wasn’t quite prepared to see me either.

“Congratulations!” I exclaimed, forcing a wide smile on my face.

He’d smiled. “Thanks Tayo. We thought we’d see you way earlier than today.”

“I’m so sorry. I was out of town. Where are they?” I asked as I walked into the apartment, which was a lot quieter than I would expect from one with a new baby. Where were all the aunties? Where was her mom?

Ugo led me to the bedroom, where Solape sat breastfeeding. Looking up and seeing me, her face had lit up.

“Tayo!” she exclaimed, attempting to rise to her feet, the baby still latched to her breast. I quickly ran to her and embraced her, not allowing her stand.

“Awww, Shols! You’re a mommy!” I cooed, genuinely happy for her. Looking at the baby, my new Goddaughter, my heart had melted. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

“She’s gorgeous!” I said, my voice heavy with emotion, partly because of the intensity of the love I was feeling for this baby, and partly because of a longing for my own.

“She is, isn’t she.” Solape had said, the love I felt also reflected in her own eyes. This baby had just washed away all the drama, tension and uncertainties of the last few months.

“I’m so sorry I haven’t been all this while…” I started, but Solape had squeezed my hand.

“You’re here now, and that’s what matters,” she’d said, smiling at me. And that was when I saw it. My friend had softened. Gone was all the hardness and bitterness in her eyes. This baby had softened her.

I caught a glimpse of a ring on her finger, and when she saw the direction of my gaze, she had smiled. “Yes, he proposed a week before Amarachi arrived! I know I talked about not wanting to marry him because of his age and…well…the fact that doesn’t really have much…”

“So what changed your mind?”

“Love. I fell in love with him. And after that, nothing else mattered,” she answered, and I could literally see the love oozing out of every pore in her body. The hopeless romantic in me was overjoyed by this turn of events, but the cynic in me wondered how long it would last.

She went on to tell me how only her sister Yinka had come to see her and the baby, all the way from Ireland. Neither her younger sister, Bukky, nor their mother, or any of their aunties in London for that matter, had come to see them.

“They’re not happy that I’m back with Ugo, and I guess this is their way of showing that. But it’s okay. Ugo’s mother arrives town later this week, so we’ll be fine!”

I spent the next two hours with Solape and Amarachi, and it was when she was walking me to the door that I noticed Ugo had stayed away from me the whole time. I could barely even get him to wave me goodbye.

“Is he okay?” I asked quietly, when we were out of the house.

“He was fine earlier. I wonder how come he’s suddenly moody!” Solape had answered, seemingly puzzled by her fiancé’s behaviour.

Brushing it aside, we had hugged our goodbyes, and I’d promised to come again by the weekend.

Walking to the station to catch my train, I muled over the potpourri of emotions I had; happiness over seeing Amarachi, envy that Solape is now a mother and I’m not, and a bitter-sweet feeling about Solape being engaged to Ugo. It was the last feeling that bothered me the most, but I quickly shut it down. I am extremely happy for my friend and whatever silly crush I have for Ugo is nothing but that…a silly crush. I love my Javier with everything in me, and I will no longer entertain any silly feelings for my friend’s man.

2 DPO

Okay, I think I’ll have to go the chemist for this bladder infection. It eased off yesterday, and I got home too late to even get it checked out, but this morning my pee smelt funny, and I was stinging afterward. Not the most comfortable feeling in the world!

Ah well, as long as it doesn’t affect the TTC!
