Tayo’s Infertility Diary 38: Busy People

Na wa oh. It’s like everyone in this town is too busy for me!

It’s already Wednesday, I have barely 3 days left in this town, but haven’t had a chance to hang out with any of my friends. Everyone is either at work, or busy with something or the other. And the few that would have definitely had my time, are abroad for the summer. Very unlike Christmas time, when it would have been case of so much to do, and so many people to see, but so little time. I just can’t believe how different things have been this trip. Or are my relationships here all just suffering the inevitable fading with time?

And to make matters worse, I started spotting yesterday, so that’s me out for yet another cycle! Being here by myself, and away from Javier, has made it all even harder to deal with. By evening, I had started bleeding proper, so I’m guessing yesterday was my CD 1. I didn’t expect the full bleed to start so soon after spotting.

So, you can see why I would have liked to take my mind of things, by hanging out with my friends. For all those forming work work, it’s not their fault at all. Acting like I’m not a professional myself. But as for those who have been citing their kids as an excuse, they should just continue! Me sef go born pikin one day!

July 17th, 2008

I woke up this morning to a call from one of my friends, Kome, asking if we could meet up for drinks later this evening. Finally! Somebody willing to give me their time!

It looks like yesterday was an unexpected ‘gush’ because now, I just have my normal spotting, and AF is not fully here yet. I really hate this limbo business! When I finish the current packet of Vitamin B6, I have decided not to get any more, because I’ve been taking them for months, and there’s been no change! I presume that full flow will be tomorrow, which will give me a 29day cycle. I had slight cramps earlier today, but nothing now. It is so bloody annoying!

I decided to occupy myself, by trying to decide which of the awesome outfits I brought along, to wear tonight. A few other friends have opted to join Kome and I, so that’s even more to look forward to!

Knowing my Apapa and traffic, I left the house as early as 3.30pm. And even that was pushing it. Thankfully, I got to the café we’d agreed to meet, fairly early. Soon enough, Kome and a few of our friends, Idowu and Linda, had joined me there.

It was great catching up on old times, and I finally found myself happy, spending time with friends. After we’d caught up on just about everything, one of them asked me a question, addressing the elephant in the room.

“Tayo, is it true?!” Kome asked “Is it true that your air headed friend, is pregnant?

Oh, how could I forget 2 Christmases ago, when Solape and I had travelled home together for the holidays. I had introduced her to my friends, and looked forward to everyone just getting along! Alas, that wasn’t to be. Their differing views about pretty much everything led them to be at loggerheads. In other words, it hadn’t gone well.

I shrugged. “You’re the one who lives in this town. I should be asking you”

“Don’t try to be smart, Tayo!” Kome went on “We’ve all heard about how she was bundled back home to Nigeria…”

“Listen…Kome. If that was the reason you brought me here…to gossip…you have wasted your time oh!”

“Ah! Okay, sorry oh!” Kome said, retreating, “We just thought we’d have an honest conversation about it…”

I waved my hands frantically. “Babe, I’m begging you. I don’t want to talk about Solape!!”

As if on cue, the phone started ringing. Rummaging through my bag, I finally found the phone.

Solape??!

What on earth does she want??!
