PCOS Diagnosis

It is critical to understand that there are no tests to diagnose PCOS specifically, and that only a doctor can test for it. That said, the following tests could be useful determinants:

A) Blood tests to check hormone levels, i.e.:

  • Estrogen level
  • FSH level
  • LH level
  • Male hormone (testosterone) level

B) Other blood tests, including:

  • Fasting glucose (blood sugar) to test for glucose intolerance and insulin resistance
  • Lipid levels
  • Prolactin levels
  • Thyroid function

C) Ovarian examinations, such as:

  • Vaginal ultrasound
  • Pelvic laparoscopy
