Ipheoma’s Surrogacy Diary 26: Your Morning

Whoever said a 2WW is fun?? I think I now understand why some TTC Sisters choose to do something fun for during the wait, like work out or go on a vacation. I am usually an outgoing, outdoor person so this restriction to my bedroom has gotten boring for me, and I have ten days more to go! My husband thinks I am on a mini vacation because I eat in bed, work in bed, read a book in bed, watch a movie in bed etc. I only get out of bed when I need to use the bathroom, but the backache ehn! I am sore all over from this bed-confinement and I have even decided to call my aunt’s doctor tomorrow and see if I could squeeze in an evening walk or something. I just might lose my mind if I don’t cross my doorstep until next weekend.

My aunt called me today…her first this week! That should count for something else that is different with this surrogacy transfer, compared to the past one. The last cycle, aunty called me like almost everyday and was on a prayer and vigil spree. When we talked, I asked her Aunty, this one you abandoned me and your babies? Odikwa n’mma? She replied and said since I complained the last time that her constant calls were getting me worked up and making me feel pressurized, she decided to give me breathing space. I laughed and told her how it was actually working because I wasn’t feeling as tensed this time as I did the first time.

On her part, she said she gets worried at times when she thinks about it, but she tries mostly to be positive-minded. She told me about one of her long time friends whose daughter is preparing for SSCE next year. Imagine me still trying to get a child while my mates are saving money to send their children to University she said in a sad low voice before adding in Igbo Mgbe onye ji tètè bu ututu ya which meant whenever you wake up is your morning. Hearing her say that made me stop whining about my backache and caused me to remember again the purpose of this entire surrogacy journey. It can’t be easy for Aunty Oby; it is one thing watching your friends have kids while you are still TTC, it is an entirely different matter when most of your friends have put childbearing years behind them and you are still trying to conceive. I don’t know how she does it, but I hope God makes everything alright soonest.

My symptoms are still same as yesterday; backache and mild cramping, and I really hope that counts for a BFP.

I pray we get a BFP next Friday so my aunt’s morning can start. In the end, life is not a competition and whenever you wake up is your morning. May God help us all on all of our different journeys.
