Confessions of a Fat Girl 51: The Intervention

This morning, I had a long talk with JJ. We took advantage of the fact that it is Saturday, to sit in our bedroom and t-a-l-k!

I told him about the emotional conflict I have had, mostly with myself, since meeting my biological father. I told him how my sisters and I, for the first time ever, went for two weeks, without speaking to each other, and how they were obviously dealing with the same emotional wahala.

Thank God for the gift of marrying my best friend. He immediately understood the pressing need for me to go to the States…very quickly. My sisters and I need to find a way to make peace with ourselves. That’s the only way we can all truly move along. In some way, we need some sort of intervention.

And knowing how fragile Akwaugo can be emotionally, and especially as she is the one of my two sisters that hasn’t reached out to me.

So, I will be leaving for New York on Tuesday evening! The earlier this is sorted, the better.

Thankfully, JJ immediately went online to pay for my ticket, to avoid any further increments to the price. As I have used the bulk of my own capital as my contribution to the business I am starting with Ezioma, there was no way I could have paid for it on my own.

Talking about my food, JJ agreed that I was beginning to go overboard, and admitted that I have indeed put on a lot of weight.

“How many kilos would you say I’ve put on?” I asked JJ. I am still petrified of getting on the scale.

“Ah, babe!” JJ remarked, laughing “Is that a trick question?!”

Not getting the answer I needed for that question, I went downstairs to scavenge for food. For some reason, my body has managed to forget all about how to eat healthy, without feeling like one in starvation mode.

I know time is coming for me to get back on track, but no be today abi?

The next thing I did was to let Ezioma know of my travel plans. She was instantly surprised, especially about how soon my trip would be. She even tried to rope me into buying some of our supplies from the States, but I politely declined.

This isn’t that kind of trip!

So, Tuesday! Here I come!

Later in the afternoon, I decided to make a trip to the grocery store. Getting there, the very first person I saw was one of my old Gym buddies.

“Mrs J! It’s been long oh!” she remarked “I’ve really missed you!”

We hugged, and I proceeded to make a mental prayer for journey mercies…and also what lay ahead.

What I wouldn’t do to have this cup pass me.

“You look good” I remarked, genuinely. It looked like she had lost at least 10kg since the last time I saw her.

I, on the other hand, have probably gone the opposite direction!

I was quite grateful that she chose not to hang around and chat, or even make any unsolicited remarks. That was truly the last thing I needed.

I know I have buried myself in quick sand. I suppose it time to get things right….
