Confessions of a Fat Girl 121: Not a Player

Now that’s what I’m talking about!!!

88.1kg!!! I have finally left the 90s, and am back to the fabulous 80s I had hit before last year’s Christmas holiday! I have finally undone all my naughtiness from that period! Whoop whoop!

On a side note, how much do I love my husband? So much! I honestly have the very best hubby in the whole wide world! When I got back from the gym this morning, he had already left for work, but he had left some fresh, hot coffee in the carafe. A small act, but it put a huge smile on my face! The little things in life, eh?

At the gym today, I worked my leg routine with Mrs. B spotting me and then I spotted her. It’s great not to have to watch the clock or count. I can focus on form and breathing, and still manage to get a rocking work out. I also did running sprints on the treadmill before and after.

I’m down nearly 2% of body fat from when I had my initial session with my trainer. He measured it at 43% with a hand-held device, which is a higher reading than my scale, but as long as the numbers go down I’m not going to complain. It read 41.3% after my workout this morning and that means I’m building muscle. More muscle means more calories burned at rest, which is win-win! My BMI also came down a bit, from 38 to 37.9, which isn’t much but when I think about my 50.7 BMI from early last year, I get a little happy.

Anyways, I wanted to try something new for breakfast today. I found a pack of wheat berries from my last trip to the States. Wheat berries are actually a whole grain, in fact, it’s the entire wheat kernel. They are an excellent source of fiber, and they have a nice, chewy texture, and a mellow, nutty flavor too. So, I decided to make a ginger wheat berry porridge!

I made it by cooking the wheat berries for a few minutes, to soften them a little. I then brought some coconut milk (about 2 cups) to boil and added 1.5 cups of oats, a quarter cup of dried fruit (raisins and almonds) and a quarter cup of ginger. Stirring well, I brought it back to boil, lowered the heat and simmered for 3 minutes. Lastly, I added two teaspoons of cinnamon and one and a half cups of the wheat berries, stirred well and simmered an additional 2 minutes until it was nice and thick.

I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how yummy it tasted! It came out really delicious, and was quite sweet from the coconut milk, so no additional sugar was needed. I added a handful of nuts before eating, and I made sure to leave enough for JJ and Chidera to enjoy later in the day. Yep, it was that good! And the best part? Less than 200 calories!

I’m so glad this week has gotten off to a great start, as it’s looking to be a very busy one for me. I am meeting up with Ezioma, my sister-in-law tomorrow, as we have quite a few orders over the coming week, including providing party and game supplies for 2 funfairs and a birthday party. About time to put all the goodies we got from the States to work! I also need to sort out inventory for my shop. As long as it’s still there, I might as well try to stock it, so I have to work on that this week.

Oh, and Ogonna left for Port Harcourt with her husband today. I called her just before they boarded the plane, to say goodbye. As much as I’ll miss her, let her carry her busy body self away from here abeg! I simply don’t understand this oversabi behavior in Chidera’s matter. Yesterday, when we joined Chidera at the cinema, she seemed to have gotten over the shock of seeing Okei, her baby daddy, and we had proceeded to watch our movie happily. We hadn’t told her that Okei had come to talk to us, or that we had even exchanged numbers with him. I felt bad about withholding that kind of information, but I knew it would only serve to upset her even more.

But I have to admit that my own curiosity has been piqued by this Okei fellow. He seemed genuinely unhappy and disturbed about his ‘breakup’ with Chidera (if you can call it that). For a newly married man, or even for a player for that matter, it just doesn’t add up. What’s the deal with him? Why is he still so hung up on Chidera, a woman almost 10 years his senior?

Scrolling through my phone, I saw where I had saved his number. I contemplated deleting it, before I do something stupid, but on second thought, I decided against it.

I know that it will come in handy one day!
