Women who have been diagnosed with PCOS often have elevated insulin levels, and are more likely to develop diabetes. Most Doctors prescribe Metformin for PCOS women, to help prevent diabetes.Â
Metformin helps regulate the amount of glucose in the blood, making the body more sensitive to insulin. PCOS diagnosed women who take Metformin reduce their chances of developing Type 2 diabetes. In addition, PCOS diagnosed women who are overweight and are treated with Metformin (in addition to living a healthy lifestyle) are able to lose weight and lower their blood sugar. Metformin (along with maintaining a healthy weight) also improves cholesterol levels.
I haven’t taken the drug, but am considering discussing it with my Ob/Gyn. Has anyone been prescribed Metformin?
