Faith’s Pregnancy Diary 122: Rooting for Love!

June 27th, 2013

I was hoping the nesting instinct would have kicked in by now, and that I’d be skipping around the flat baking and mopping floors, but unfortunately the dust is mounting up everywhere, and I’m still glued to terrible TV. But yesterday, I had to force myself to start packing my hospital bag. Although, when I say bag, I used the word loosely. Make that BOX, because the size of the ‘bag’ has got to be the size of a small car to fit in two bath towels, a dressing gown, slippers and all the other essential stuff recommended on the hospital lists on all those baby websites. I was doing fine until I packed the baby clothes, and then I got a bit emotional, especially when I saw the tiny pair of socks that Patrick’s mum bought for us. It’s so silly, I know I’m pregnant and there’s a baby inside me – I can feel it moving all the time – but sometimes it still doesn’t seem quite real. I can’t believe that in a matter of weeks (maybe even days), I’ll meet my baby girl!

After work on Tuesday, Patrick decided to put finishing touches to the nursery (hanging up this sweet animal lampshade and animal pictures I bought online), and yesterday, as he got home early, we decided to go baby shopping at this new shop in The Palms. My poor hubby spent the whole time moaning about how much things cost, but the dear man still indulged me, and payed for literally everything I picked. Thanks to that particular shopping spree, the baby now has a cot mobile, a musical nightlight and some Moses basket sheets, while I ended up with the grand prize of a packet of maternity sanitary towels. Unfair much!

Today, I went for my antenatal class and doctor’s appointment. To God be the glory, my blood pressure is in normal range now, my urine is okay, the baby’s heartbeat is fine and she has got her head down now. So I might not to have a c-section after all! I was so worried about that. I’m so glad to know they’re heading in the right direction!

When I called Patrick to give him the news, he kept teasing me about my using the ‘she’ and ‘her’ pronouns. To think he’s even the one that has been crying for a girl! I would have thought he would accept the fact that I just KNOW it is a girl! My heart and soul are telling me that, and my sister has confirmed it! Yes, a boy was my original preference, but I am good and happy to wait for my Emeobong!

After my appointment, as I was waiting for my cab to come (Patrick couldn’t bring me today, and I was in no shape to drive), when my phone rang. It wasn’t a number I recognized and, for a moment, I hesitated answering it. Even though I had gotten better news this week than the last appointment, I still wasn’t in the mood for any kind of lame conversation.

But amebo like me, I just had to answer it.

“Faith?” came the very familiar smooth baritone voice.

I had to stifle a hiss. I knew I shouldn’t have answered.

“Hi Demola. I don’t have this number for you.” I answered.

“Have you spoken with your friend?!” he asked.

I frowned. He couldn’t even bother to ask how I was.

Swallowing a sarcastic response, I calmly answered, “Yes, I have.”

“And she’s told you about what happened?”

“Yes.” I was ready to play this monosyllable game with him till kingdom come oh!

“Faith, can you imagine that after all we have been through, Ebika left me for another man??!! After everything I’ve done for her??!”

“What exactly have you done for her, Demola?” I cut in, fully angry now. “Is it wasting her time for 15 years? Keeping her a side chick at her age? Making her a laughing stock to the whole town? I don’t understand, please explain what exactly you have done for her!”

“Faith!” he exclaimed, obviously surprised by my outburst. “I thought you were on our side. I thought you were rooting for us…especially after London!”

“Demola, I was rooting for love…true love! But what you and Ebika have…had…wasn’t true love. It was a sick, selfish and destructive thing that caused only sadness to everyone involved!”

“How can you say that, Faith? I love her!” he said, and his voice actually broke.

At this point, my anger had given way to pity. “Demola, you say one thing but your actions show another. You love her, but you still love your wife as well!”

“So, you’re saying I should just accept this is over? I should just let her go?” by now, he was actually crying.

“If you love her, you will. Let her live her life, Demola. I beg you. You stay with your family, and let her try to build her own.” I pleaded.

And then the line went dead. I wasn’t even offended by it. He was probably too overcome with emotion to talk. Sad as it is, this separation is the only logicial thing for them.

Still with the phone in my hand, I had an idea about how I could maybe make things better…

@faith you seem like me, you go at any length to help others.
I didnt expect Demola to give up, selfish spoilt boy…love is sticking to your loved one against all odds and damning the consequence.

  2. Debbie

Demola is just like my ex he loves two women and the problem with them is they are selfish they don’t want to lose any even if they know they are hurting both. the painful part is they end up losing both
my advice to ebika is she should move up. better days are ahead.

  3. Grace

Way to go @faith it was high time Demola faced it. Geez, what they shared wasnt love (may in the beginning)but now .
