Faith’s Pregnancy Diary 113: Counting Down

June 12th, 2013

After yesterday’s fiasco, nobody told me to sit my ass at home today. Doing a bit of sleuthing on Facebook, I saw the picture of Ose’s baby daddy on her page. Taking it further, I ran a search and found his own page, alongside the name, and picture, of his poor wife. I don’t know what I was expecting to see…maybe the picture of a plain looking, middle aged woman. Which is why I was shocked to see a woman who looked even younger than Ose and I. The beautiful, caramel skinned woman could not have been a day older than 30. And it left me bewildered about how come her husband had stepped out on her so early. From the wedding picture I saw, she looked like she’d been barely out of her teens when she’d exchanged vows with Mr. Adulterer. Na wa oh! Poor girl. If the yeye man doesn’t want to marry her again, there are thousands of other men who would be only too happy to claim this beauty queen for themselves, baby or no baby. But of course, the tout wants to eat his cake and have it. Life!

Anyway, I still don’t know what to do with myself in this my break. I came up with hundreds of practical ideas when I was sitting at my desk at work, but I now, I find myself watching TV all day long, surfing the net and looking for who’s not too busy to chat with me on WhatsApp or BBM.

I shouldn’t complain too much because I’m feeling loads better now. I can have naps whenever I like, and it’s great not having to get up early and drag my 83-year-old body (well, that’s what it feels like) to work every day. Now I can stay in bed when Patrick’s alarm goes off, and roll over to get in some more quality snoozing. I started to feel guilty that I should be doing something more constructive until my mum reminded me that I probably won’t get the chance to do this again until the baby’s a grumpy teenager! Talk about a reality check!

Another friend I made at antenatal class had a bit of a scare yesterday. When I got home from Ose’s house, I found a series of frantic messages from this other lady, Uju, asking me questions about my Braxton Hicks, and if I’d ever bled during any of mine. Because I saw her messages about an hour after they’d been sent, my replies, and phone calls, had gone unanswered. Before going to bed, all I could do was pray for her.

Anyways, she called me this morning, to say she and the baby are okay, but she is due to be induced at the weekend as the doctors think that’ll be safer. At 36 weeks and 2 days, she is about 10 days ahead of me. It’s weird, because even though we only met a few weeks ago, it feels like we’ve gone through our pregnancies together and I just want both of us to be fine. She has promised to get her husband Sam to text me when there’s any news.

And as if they blew a whistle for my other antenatal friends, I got a text from yet another one of them, Caroline, who is planning a ‘baby drizzle’ for another one of our members after our next class on Friday. She dubbed it a ‘drizzle’ because it isn’t quite a shower. Oooookay! Even though it’s quite cheesy, and maybe even a bit awkward as no such ‘drizzle’ was organized for any of the rest of us, I can’t help but admit that it’s nice of her to organise it. It’s optional for us to bring presents, so I guess no pressures there. But knowing myself, I’ll probably pick up something on my way there. It will definitely be awkward seeing Baby Mama Ose again, but she will be surprised to experience the blanking of life! I will blank her like she’s a spirit! Useless home wrecker. And if she tries to make a scene, I will be sure to tell the other mommies her story. I don’t see those women taking too kindly to a husband snatcher in their midst.

In other news, Patrick returned with the most wonderful gifts ever. Vou had sent me an entire suitcase of baby clothes, ranging from newborn to 18 month sizes, from the high end store Piccoli & Co. It totally blew me away! Diana and Patrick, on the other hand, got me a box of keepsakes, with a music box, baby book, a personalised silver locket necklace, and building boxes. Very nice too…but not nice enough for me to call her. I extended a warm, heartfelt thank you to her husband, and asked him to relay the same to his wife. I won’t be bought over by gifts.

Counting down to baby A now! It’s almost officially T-6 weeks!

Tick tock…
